Exhibition of the Australian ABORIGINES Greg Weatherby

Australian Aborigines are the original inhabitants of Australia who came to this territory 40-50 thousand years ago. Since Aborigines did not have their own script, they have been passing down their wisdom and experience from generation to generation with the help of art. They have a distinctive artistic expression, and their drawings and paintings of people, animals and plants on the bark of trees and on the walls of the caves reveal considerable mental abilities and resemble drawings of African natives or drawings from Paleolithic Spain and France. In the art Aborigines used natural materials and dyes. Their works were dominated by ocher red clay, white gypsum and black dye obtained from manganese ore and charcoal. Various juices from flowers and leaves of plants served as color binders. The paint was applied to stone, wood, but especially to barks using human hair brushes, feathers, or twigs. The eucalyptus crust was straightened by water and fire to create a plaque on which it was possible to draw. For the first time ever, an Australian Aborigine will present his work and way of life of his people at the European exhibition, in Bratislava GALLERY on 14th October 2016.
